Become familiar with the Area Emergency Response Plan.
Become CERT trained. Encourage others to become CERT trained.
Establish a program for certifying several people as HAM radio operators.
Obtain call letters for the area EOC – Emergency Operations Center.
Compile pertinent information that could be useful for setting up alternative communication systems.
Encourage block captains to obtain Family Service Radio (FSR) band type radios.
Teach people living with the area boundaries (all block captains and runners especially) the communications procedures to be used in the event of a disaster.
In the event of a disaster, after reporting to your respective block captain, go directly to the EOC – Emergency Operations Center to help in establishing a working EOC to assist all people living within the area boundaries in receiving the necessary aid.
Set up a communication netwith CERT search and rescue teams, other CERT Teams in the area, local hospital and medical facilities, the city emergency manager and other needed personnel as directed by the CERT Team Leader.
